About

Hi, I’m Kevin Ravas. Thanks for stopping by — I’m honored to share a little of my story with you.

I started this website to showcase my writing as I prepare to self-publish my first book, One Step at a Time, a memoir about the journey me and my wife, Pam, took on the Appalachian Trail. After 2,000 miles, I felt like the stories had written themselves and I just needed to put them down on paper. I’m proud to share our story, and my hope is that by reading it, you’ll feel like you’re walking the trail right alongside us.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a trained writer. I don’t have a degree in literature, but through this first book I discovered a love for storytelling. There are many ways to tell a story—through images, video, or music—but writing, to me, is like playing an acoustic guitar: simple, resonant, and authentic.

My creative journey actually began with songwriting, and I still write and perform music under the name Kevy Woods. Whether it’s through songs or stories, I’ve always been drawn to artful ways of sharing experiences.

Beyond writing, the outdoors has shaped much of who I am. I’ve been hiking and camping my whole life. I love a good hiking or backpacking challenge, particularly when it’s something new. And in most cases, I’m usually just trying to keep up with Pam, who is even more of a go getter than I am. Together we’ve hiked the Adirondack 46, the New Hampshire 48, the Long Trail, the Appalachian Trail, and 111 peaks in the Northeast 111 (which is actually a list of 115 peaks, Pam keeps trying to convince me to do those last 4 peaks…).

Since finishing the AT in 2022, we’ve been traveling the country as Pam works as a travel Physical Therapist. Her contracts take us to new places every few months—Maryland, Florida, New Hampshire, New York, and now Hawaii. On the Big Island, we’ve traded hiking boots for fins at times, diving into scuba, shelling, and ocean swimming.

We’re both originally from Schenectady, New York, and while the Capital Region will always feel like home, adventure keeps pulling us forward.

If you decide to pick up my book, I’d love to hear what you think. Feel free to reach out anytime through my contact page. You can also subscribe for updates — I won’t flood your inbox, just an occasional note when something new is ready to share.

Thanks again for visiting. I’m glad you’re here.
